Deviation Actions
deviantART has finally blocked ZIP and RAR files in the Rainmeter category. All submissions from now on must be packaged in the .rmskin format.
This will hopefully greatly reduce the malware submissions that have plagued the gallery over an year. This is a small step in the right direction from deviantART, but they still have work to do. We will continue to fight for the security of our users, but remember to keep your eyes open! Check the Malware Report for a list of things to look out for.
Special thanks to karmat111, jsmorley, and many others who have sacrificed their time to protect you all. The way deviantART has handled this situation is pathetic to say the least. After several hundred messages to deviantART by various members of the Rainmeter team (yes, I'm serious), they have finally done something. We have only won one battle -- the war is far from over. But fret not, we shall prevail!
Regards,
poiru
Creating .rmskin files
To learn how to create .rmskin files, check the Rainmeter documentation.
We are also working hard on a new .rmskin format in time for the final Rainmeter 2.3 release, which will allow easier creation of .rmskin files. Stay tuned!
